I can't tell you how much I appreciate someone reminding us to stop and think about what and how we are consuming, rather than encouraging us to go buy specific containers and systems to have things organized in pretty ways that are unnecessary. Organization doesn't require more consumerism. The first step, as you mention, is at the point of purchase and asking yourself -- what do you really need? I read very few of these newsletters these days, but always make time for yours, Sarai. Keep writing.
One in two out!! So simple, but it feels truly revolutionary to me today. Thank you! A slight tweak to the standard 1 in 1 out rule that can gently, continously, help reduce my possesions!
I have a studio that I use for music, art, and sewing, and storing all the various components so I can find them has been a challenge! I have occasional decluttering fits, and I'm trying to tidy up after I finish something (But I always seem to have multiple things on the go!). I do like your one in 2 out idea, and I shall try the get rid of one thing a day challenge next. It seems so simple. . .

It’s so hard to avoid the impulse to solve problems with more stuff, because it’s such a natural human tendency!
This is a great way to gently declutter! I love the way you think.
Thanks Kate!

It really helps encourage me to take a pause before adding anything new to my life. That’s been a big benefit so far.

Making things as simple and easy as I can is the only way I’m able to improve this particular skill. I hope it works for you!
Oh, hair products! Thank you for naming this, Sarai! Always looking for the holy grail that will stop the frizz 🙃
