Popping in from the southern hemisphere (there’s snow on our mountain this morning) to say YES you should totally get a hammock! I’d say choose beforehand where you’re going to put it, and whether you want one with a free-standing frame or one you can hang off anything, but they’re awesome for spending more leisure time outside.
Oh, yes, the hammock is essential. Bought myself one last summer, with a frame so that I can move it in and out of the sun, and I love it! For one thing it means you look up, to a whole new view of each day. And it’s absolutely the best for reading. This year I bought myself a kids’ blow up pool, 28” high, to sit around in with a drink on very hot days! Plus, yes, eating outside whenever possible on the deck. These 3 things, plus the back garden, are things that help me eke the most out of every summer day, even in the city. I love the idea of a summer menu and am off to write mine up!
Love your idea of a summer menu. It's only June but my summer feels practically over because too much is planned in it this time, which is actually unusual for me in summer. I feel inspired to come up with a healthy menu of self-care and creativity to incorporate in when I can!
That’s how I’ve felt about this year overall. I really had to scale back my plans (especially travel) to make room for rest and “white space”. But I am so glad I planned in a month off, it feels like the end of the school year when I was a kid!
I need a lot of space in my schedule. I had a couple travel things that I consciously decided were worth the time they take but it definitely has an impact I’m working with now. So glad to hear you have yourself that month!
Love love love “menu of activities”. I’m newly single (again) for the last 6 months and I sometimes feel I overbook myself to combat loneliness. Your post is so timely in so many ways. Happy summer Sarai!!!
Hi Sarai! I love the idea of The Perfect Scoop book! Do you need an ice cream maker for his recipes? If you have one you like, can you please share a link? I'm so close to getting one. I have a garden full of berries and herbs that would make fantastic ice cream but haven't bit the bullet and bought a maker yet!
I have a kitchen aid mixer, and use the ice cream bowl and paddle attachment. It works great, and I use my stand mixer so much. You definitely need an ice cream maker for these recipes, but I’ve had inexpensive ones in the past that worked well too!
Adore the idea of a “menu of activities for summer enjoyment” !! Making one for myself immediately. Thank you for this!
I hope it helps you enjoy summer to the max!

I had no idea I could get an attachment for my mixer. Amazing! Thank you!
