Lucinda is beautiful — enjoy!

Re Nick Cave’s advice, I agree that calamities are a call to growth, and we can choose to answer that call. However, we do need to acknowledge that in some cases we, and others, can be destroyed by a tragedy through no fault of our own. Compassion calls us to acknowledge our weaknesses and failures to overcome some tragedies.

Very true. Sometimes you just have to be with the suffering, and that’s all you can do.

Hi Sarai, I loved your Post today; full of totally random thoughts & your absolutely beautiful Girl, Lucinda. She is so very precious & she will be your "Best Mate" ( Aussie Term for Best Friend) for the rest of her life. May Lucinda have a very long & happy life with you & your Family. I'm also looking for a Dog of my own. Since my son passed almost 4 months ago, I've been feeling particularly lonely & this is the first time in my whole life, that I've been without a Dog. My Landlady has told me that I'm only allowed to have a small breed of Dog because I only have a very small living space. Anyway, hopefully, I will find my new Little Best Mate before long. Please give Lucinda a Big Hug from me way down here in Australia. Warmest Regards, Zoe 🙂 🐕🐕

Congratulations on adding Lucinda to your family. She looks so sweet. Enjoy the focus a dog brings.

I’m visiting my daughter & will be sure to rub her dog’s tummy. He’s a great dog.

Lucinda is a sweetie!

And yes, a life tragedy or calamity changes one's life. They call for really digging down to the basics, and to ignore them is a tragedy in itself.

What a cute pup!!! And thank you for the link to the Toast skirt - I’m thinking that style of embroidery would like great on a peasant-style blouse and am full of ideas now!

That would be really cute too!

Hi, a Quick question - the Toast skirt you linked to is described as "crimped cotton". Do you know an outlet for this type of 'crimp'? I'm not familiar - it looks like an old school tea towel type of fabric. One of the reviewers describes how much she likes the way it moves with her, so your nudge about embroidery ideas and the review leads me to be interested in this as a possible fabric for future summer stuff. Love - Love - love your updates, what a beauty your puppy is. Enjoy and many thanks!

I’ve never heard a fabric called that! t first, I though it sounded like seersucker, but from the photos you can see that it has more body and weight. When I zoom in, it looks like a textured mid weight cotton, almost like muslin. I think a white muslin or similar would look great!

From what I remember the 'alpha male' is a wrong term and was used when watching and recording different groups of wolves brought together. I don't think it appears/happens in family groups. Dog psychology is fascinating and they are so tuned into body language even resulting in learning something we didn't want them to learn! Enjoy your pup! I've always had collies and they can be hard work but so rewarding that I can't imagine ever having any other breed!

My understanding is that alpha behavior encompasses a wide range of leadership activities, such as directing and protecting the pack. But the aggression and resource guarding that people associate with the term “alpha male” takes place when packs are artificially thrown together in captivity. Then that misunderstanding of what “alpha” means was applied to primates, including humans! Yes, dogs are absolutely fascinating.

You've nailed it! Think the study was by some monks in New York but I might have got that wrong! Dog Behaviour has changed along with the decades - Caesar Milan was flavour of the month awhile back but then his training methods were discredited as was training highlighting Alpha Male (you must be the alpha male; eat first, go through doors first etc.) Dogs like people are all different and rescue dogs in particular need time to settle and adjust. Thankfully your Lucy has landed on her feet or should that be paws!

Yes, I totally remember watching his show back in the day, and how he’d talk about the importance of being the dominant one. I’m following the approach of building a positive, trusting relationship with her. I absolutely LOVE border collies! And other collies too. I do wonder if Lucy has some BC in her. Maybe I’ll get her a doggy DNA test later on.
