What a delicious post! Some things new to me and some familiar friends I should revisit. I love the Jeanette Winterson books you listed... the dark humour in Oranges was a game changer for me when it first came out. Thank you 😊
After reading her memoir, I really got a sense of who she is.or I imagine I did, because she reminded me so much of someone I know. Such an incredible, imaginative, gifted person.
I enjoy these medley posts, even if I don't always comment. A little literary, a little current hot topics and a little cooking. Also, Sarai are you familiar with Rancho Gordo beans? You often post recipes with beans and once you've had Rancho Gordo, you will love beans even more than you'd think one can love beans.
Of course you do! No wonder you post all these bean recipes.
I've done a lot of nerdy things in my life, but what tops them all is joining a one year waitlist to be invited to join the Rancho Gordo Bean Club. You would like it over there with the other Legumanatis.

I tried listening to the Nick Cave book as an audiobook this year and that format didn't draw me in, maybe I should try the physical book. However, I loved his most recent interview on the On Being podcast. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/on-being-with-krista-tippett/id150892556?i=1000635716067
I haven’t listened to that... definitely adding it to my list! That’s a great podcast I haven’t listened to in far too long.
I need to do an issue asking for podcast recommendations. I’ll bet everyone here has some great suggestions.
This season of On Being was probably one of her best in a long while. Love podcasts, great idea to collect recommendations.

Yes, you’ve got my number Jeanine!!! I love Ranch Gordo. I think I even have their bean cookbook laying around somewhere.

The most popular recipe in the group this year is: https://www.burlapandbarrel.com/blogs/recipes/smoky-confitd-beans-with-olives
I use Rancho Gordo Royal Corona beans, but you can use any firm, white beans. Even non-bean geeks go crazy over this dish.
Wonderful suggestions! I read and was blown away by The Passion this year so I will definitely be checking out Jeanette Winterson’s memoir.
