Fascinating! That photographer was so creative, but he used it to con grieving people out of their hard-earned cash. Still, it was undoubtedly a comfort to them and helped heal the hurt. Two things that are pure magic to me:
Dhaka Muslin - woven in SE Asia, so fine it was transparent, on equipment that would seem primitive to us, yet we can’t recreate it
The incredibly complex and beautiful designs experienced weavers can create with a simple back strap loom

Yes, it's a strange situation. I know people who have seen mediums after the loss of a loved one, and it brought them comfort.
